Update on Gavin

I talked to Carrie yesterday and she gave me more of what is involved with Gavin's disease.
Here is what she sent me:
Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC): is a chronic liver disease caused by progressive inflammation and scarring of the bile ducts of the liver. The inflammation impedes the flow of the bile to the gut, which can ultimately lead to liver cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer. The underlying cause of the inflammation is believed to be auto-immunity. The definitive treatment is liver transplantation.

Gavin has been through some testing in the previous weeks and they have seen his levels go down which has been quite amazing. Carrie tells me that aside from being tired he is feeling relatively well right now. They are more anxious for the testing that will come in the following week. Like the description that she sent above explains this disease can carry with it the chance of cancer. Gavin will go and meet with a doctor this next week to see if he needs to be tested for this. Lets all continue to keep this wonderful family in our prayers and thoughts! I will keep you updated as more info becomes available.
